Walkies

Our 2-acre
wooded,
fenced land is
designed to keep
your dog
amused for hours along with his new pals, with whom he can run off leash, play chase,
hide and seek, or 'what’s in the woodpile?' a firm favorite with our guests.

The dogs are always supervised but are encouraged to go and explore and form
friendships without too much human intervention as this is a valuable learning tool for
them and can be helpful long after they leave us.

Many dogs that come to us have had no social skills whatsoever, are unsure how to play
and do not have good 'greeting' techniques. Through vicarious and experiential learning,
these dogs have a totally different way of dealing with other dogs within a few days and
go home with some sparkly new social skills. Owners have commented that after a stay
with us, their dogs are more happy to make new friends and are less threatened by the
presence of other dogs. Such skills can be life saving to a dog so we welcome this kind
of feedback.

Your dog will run off leash for at least 90 minutes a day; some of that time may be
spent swimming, weather permitting. We aim to get all the dogs down to the beach and
splashing in the river every day or cavorting on the sand as some like to do. Swimming is
a great exercise for dogs as it is a huge confidence builder that carries over into other
areas of the dogs life [think how proud your child was when he or she learned to swim
and how it gave them confidence] so we love for them to do it as much as possible.

In between times, your dog can sunbathe on the deck and enjoy the sun, or just wander
around our fenced top yard safely, mostly though, after a fun packed morning, they all
want to nap after a drink and a snack! The snores mid afternnon can be deafening!!

In bad weather, all of the dogs still get walked, however, they get leash walked and
then we play indoors or out on the deck with structured games to keep them mentally
stimulated. If we are able to have them out for that all important off leash 'go crazy'
time, then we brave the mud and the rain, because as we always say...'baths have been
invented, so lets go get dirty!'  We are fresh air fanatics and know that dogs are too.
As long as we are out there with them, most dogs dont mind the rain, in fact they seem
to think all that slipping and sliding is kinda fun!
